We rely on instructors for introducing newcomers to the sport and helping them develop their shooting skills. Anyone can get involved as an instructor, whether you’re a current member and shooter, or a friend or parent of someone involved and you want to be able to help out.

We run an instructors course which focuses on the basics of ISSF shooting. You will learn the basics of the sport- the different disciplines, equipment, rules, competition formats, etc. You will also have hands-on sessions learning about how to teach beginners and guide them as they progress. We go through basic positions and the core components of shooting such as trigger control, breathing, shot routines etc.

We will run some practice scenarios with willing volunteers so you can simulate instruction and learn about what to watch out for. Once you have spent some time in practical sessions, we encourage you to shadow an experience instructor as they work with novice shooters and then try it out yourself. For the first few sessions, we will have an experienced instructor also shadow you to offer support and help manage safety. After this you’ll have no problem introducing people to the sport and helping members of the club improve their shooting.

We encourage anyone interested to get in touch if they want to train as an instructor.

The theory element of the course is covered in one hour while the practical element will span over two hours. The course is free for members to take. The cost per person for non-members is €50.

Note that we focus on ISSF shooting styles for this course.
